Industry

Our philosophy of engagement. While we aspire to trust our neighboring companies, we also have found it prudent to be skeptical and verify. Since our founding in 2019, we have become very knowledgeable and active in challenging the explosive growth occurring in San Patricio County along La Quinta Channel. We are currently engaged in a federal lawsuit with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Enbridge, have filed TCEQ contested case hearings to stop two desalination plants on La Quinta Channel, and routinely challenge air pollution permits by neighboring export terminals by working with area scientists. IOBCWA tries to understand each permit and the science behind it, so that we can make knowledgeable written and verbal comments at public meetings that we often request.

Center for International Environmentalal Laws' (CIEL) latest report: “Emissions Unleashed: The Climate Crisis and America's Petrochemical Boom.”
The report analyzes the climate impacts of the planned petrochemical buildout, revealing that new US petrochemical projects will emit greenhouse gases equivalent to nearly 40 coal plants worth of CO2 — surpassing the total emissions from all US commercial aircraft.

A FEW SURPRISING FINDINGS
Just 10 megaprojects make up more than half of the expected emissions, making decisions on these projects extremely important
60% of proposed plastic production projects are on hold, showing that a combination of local opposition and market forces are beginning to constrain the expansion of plastic production.

Green & Blue Energy Expansion(Hydrogen/Ammonia)

This video was taken from the Port of Corpus Christi's Commissioners meeting March 19, 2024 confirming more than 80 new business prospects for San Patricio County representing the Hydrogen chain.
Ingleside Clean Ammonia Partners aka YaREN
Calling themselves YaREN and Ingleside Clean Ammonia Partners, Canadian-owned Enbridge and Norwegian-owned Yara have applied to build a NEW Ammonia Plant on Enbridge property in Ingleside, TX.
Join the Fight HERE!
Their air permit application #174275 with state regulator Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) is proposing to release many tons of various pollutants including 66.27 tons of TOXIC AMMONIA every year into the air and directly in the path of nearby Ingleside schools and neighborhoods.
Port of Corpus Christi Ingleside Solar Farm
The Port of Corpus Christi Authority (PCCA) is requesting a zoning change for 2,112.04 acres recently acquired surrounding the McCampbell Airport within the City of Ingleside from Residential to Industrial with Special Use Permit to allow the future development of a proposed solar energy farm that will supply green energy. No! No! No!

Oil Export Terminals
Ingleside on the Bay is located on former Karankawan lands on the historical Live Oak Peninsula, where three oil export terminals have also decided to locate exporting 60% of North America's crude oil in 2024.

Enbridge Ingleside Energy Center
Located adjacent to Ingleside on the Bay (IOB), Enbridge Ingleside Energy Center purchased Moda Midstream in 2021 and quickly became the leading U.S. oil export terminal in the US. This Canadian owned company had a gross profit for the quarter ending June 30, 2023 of 4.10 billion. A 14.42% increase year over year. Their gross profit for the 12 months ending June 30, 2023 was 16.55 billion a 10% increase. How much money does a company really need?  NOW Enbridge has partnered with Norwegian company Yara proposing to build a very large blue hydrogen and ammonia facility!
On March 6, 2024, Enbridge announced its most current acquisition of two marine docks and land from Flint Hills Resources in Ingleside for $200 million. Pictured below with link to story by OK Energy Today.

Christmas Eve 2022, Flint Hills Ingleside had a 14,000 gallon oil spill.  On April 8, 2024 the U.S. Department of Justice has entered a consent decree with Flint Hills regarding a fine to Flint Hills Resources for $989,213 for violations of the Clean Water Act.

LNG Export Terminal

Cheniere - Corpus Christi Liquefaction
Corpus Christi Liquefaction (Cheniere) operates a liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility near Portland. Huge LNG tankers can be seen every day traversing La Quinta Channel about 150 feet offshore. Last year approximately 215 Large Natural (fracked and piped in) Gas Carriers (LNGC) transversed in and then out of Corpus Christi Bay on La Quinta Ship Channel right in front of Ingleside on the Bay, Ingleside Cove Sanctuary, Gregory and Portland Texas.
Cheniere already as approval for a total of 400 LNGC. The ship wakes from the 215 seen last year are already causing these areas significant damages to personal property, coastal erosion, depletion of seagrass, upsafe boating and swimming conditions, silting in of beaches and marina, reduction of marine life, along with air, noise, light, and water pollution. Now they more!

The U.S. recently became the world’s leading exporter of liquified natural gas (LNG). Much of that is exported via the Gulf Coast from facilities in Texas and Louisiana. Greenpeace USA put together this tanker tracker in order to investigate and monitor the activity in this region and the ramifications it has around the globe.

Channel Deepening

Ingleside on the Bay is located on the busy La Quinta Ship Channel, which adjoins the Corpus Christi Ship Channel/Gulf Intracoastal Waterway and is operated by the Port of Corpus Christi. La Quinta Channel is subject to ongoing maintenance dredging, with additional permit requests for further deepening, widening, and/or lengthening.

Desalination Plants

There are several desalination plants currently under permit review through the TCEQ. IOBCWA has taken the lead on challenging those planned for La Quinta Channel - by the City of Corpus Christi, the Port of Corpus Christi, and the City of Ingleside. Visit the Desal Plants page for more information.
