Area Industry Overview

Over a dozen industries related to oil and gas have operations in the area around Ingleside on the Bay. Nearly all have, as part of their mission, a desire to be a good community neighbor. Our aim is to partner with these industries to preserve the quality of life we enjoy. The photo shows one of our many dolphins frolicking in Ingleside Cove in front of the construction underway at Keiwit.

The Industries

The oil and gas industry involves upstream, midstream, and downstream operations. The industries situated upwind  of IOB are classified as "midstream" operations. These include pipelines, terminals, and tank farms. The biggest potential air polluters are downstream operations, such as refineries, fractionators, and liquifiers.

The Opportunities

The booming industrial growth in the Coastal Bend offers employment opportunities for area residents. Many IOB citizens work in oil and gas, marine, and other related industries. The Corpus Christi Economic Development Corporation and the San Patricio Economic Development Corporation aim to sustain, expand, and attract industry to the area. Other supporters of economic growth include the Port of Corpus Christi and area Chambers of Commerce.

The Regulators

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) is the main state agency that oversees air and water quality and safety. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) also plays a regulatory role. The Texas General Land Office (GLO) manages state lands and natural resources in Texas, including "the vast Texas coast". The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers also regulates use of coastline and waters.
