IOBCWA relies on science to better understand the environment around us.
The organization works closely with scientists from Texas A&M University at Corpus Christi, the University of Texas at Arlington, and others. This image shows siltation from prop wash activities at Enbridge, adjacent to Ingleside on the Bay, which is damaging seagrasses. |

Join the IOBCWA Stream Team!
We’re thrilled to announce our new Stream Team Water Monitoring Program! This is a wonderful opportunity for Ingleside on the Bay Coastal Watch Association (IOBCWA) members and neighbors to help protect the waters we all love and enjoy. By joining the IOBCWA Stream Team, you’ll take part in hands-on water monitoring right here in our community — contributing valuable data to protect our bays and waterways across Texas. Interested in joining? Email [email protected] to get registered and receive your training information. Want to learn more? Explore the statewide Texas Stream Team Program to see how citizen scientists like you are making a difference. |

STAGES - Stakeholder Guided Environmental Science

IOBCWA Partners with TAMUCC’s STAGES Program
IOBCWA is honored to be selected for TAMU–Corpus Christi’s STAGES Program, part of the National Science Foundation Research Traineeship (NRT). Through this collaboration, we’re working with TAMUCC researchers to strengthen our data analysis and predictive modeling capabilities using AI and machine learning. Our shared goal is to better understand how industrial development along the Coastal Bend affects air and water quality, marine ecosystems, and community health. IOBCWA may also gain access to key environmental databases, including water quality metrics, seagrass imagery, air monitoring data, and sea level change records — supporting our mission to protect the Corpus Christi bay through science-based advocacy. |

Optical Gas Imaging Studies with EarthWorks
IOBCWA partnered with EarthWorks to conduct Optical Gas Imaging (OGI) studies of several petrochemical facilities across the Texas Coastal Bend. OGI technology reveals air emissions that are invisible to the naked eye.
The first round of videos was completed in December 2021, followed by a second round in September 2022. Based on these findings, EarthWorks submitted a complaint report to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) in March 2022, which resulted in 31 individual investigations.
IOBCWA has submitted Public Information Requests (PIRs) to access the related TCEQ investigation reports. These are being received gradually — please check back for updates.
Below, you’ll find links to available OGI videos and TCEQ reports as we continue to share findings and advocate for cleaner air along our coast.
