About

Founded in 2019,  the purpose of Ingleside on the Bay Coastal Watch is to promote the health, safety, and quality of life for residents of Ingleside on the Bay and surrounding communities through research, education, communication, and action.

Background

IOBCWA was formed in 2019 by a group of citizens in Ingleside on the Bay who are concerned about the impacts of sea level rise, subsidence, and ship traffic on our community. Through word-of-mouth alone, at our first member meeting in October, 14 people joined. As a grassroots organization, IOBCWA is dedicated to conducting research, educating our citizens, working with our industrial neighbors, communicating our aims with potential partners, and taking decisive action to chart our own future.

Goal

Our goal is to preserve our community's high quality of life by developing strategic partnerships, fostering innovative approaches, and pursuing funding designed to position IOB and surrounding communities as a resilient coastal community able to mitigate the negative effects of rising sea levels, larger and more frequent ship traffic, and rapid industrialization. We realize it will require many constructive voices and diverse opinions and expertise to achieve this aim.
