Community Engagement ManagerFull-Time | $55,000
Hybrid (Approx. 50% Community-Based / 50% Remote)

Coastal Watch Association (CWA) is seeking a Community Engagement Manager to build strong, trust-based relationships across our region and support meaningful community participation in decisions that affect health, the environment, and local futures.

This is an external, community-facing role rooted in community-based networking. The Community Engagement Manager engages directly with residents, faith groups, neighborhood leaders, and partner organizations; attends and tracks local government meetings; hosts community events; and helps translate complex public processes into clear, accessible information. This role connects relationships to action—supporting membership growth, volunteer engagement, and coordinated community participation.

Key Responsibilities

Community Engagement & Relationship Building
  • Build and sustain relationships with community members, neighborhood leaders, faith groups, and aligned organizations
  • Engage regularly in existing community spaces, networks, and gatherings
  • Cultivate trust through consistent presence, listening, and follow-up

Government & Civic Engagement
  • Attend and monitor city council, commissioners court, port authority, and other relevant public meetings
  • Track agendas, decisions, and key deadlines and share clear summaries with staff and community partners
  • Provide public testimony on behalf of Coastal Watch Association, when appropriate

Public Education & Campaign Support
  • Translate regulatory, scientific, or policy information into accessible language
  • Educate residents on how local government and regulatory processes work and how to engage
  • Support campaigns related to permits, regulatory actions, and community education
  • Coordinate outreach to encourage participation in hearings, public comments, and civic actions

Events, Membership & Volunteer Engagement
  • Plan and host community meetings, town halls, listening sessions, and workshops
  • Recruit, onboard, and engage members and volunteers
  • Support pathways for deeper involvement and leadership development

Qualifications

  • Experience in community engagement, outreach, organizing, or relationship-based work (nonprofit, advocacy, public health, environmental, or civic settings preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to build and sustain trust-based relationships with diverse communities and partners
  • Experience attending, tracking, or reporting on public or government meetings
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain complex information clearly
  • Comfort representing an organization publicly and engaging with community members in varied settings
  • Experience supporting volunteers or members
  • Ability to conduct in-person outreach, including tabling at outdoor events and block walking
  • Availability to work evenings and occasional weekends
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Spanish language skills strongly preferred, especially for community outreach in multilingual settings

Education in community development, public health, environmental studies, social sciences, or a related field is preferred but not required. Relevant lived experience and community-based work are strongly valued.
